“Worker's Song” by Boston Irish punk band the Dropkick Murphys- another amazing anthem of solidarity and resistance by the band that always puts the working man first. The guys are seen as heroes by a lot of people in the Boston area and the whole northeastern United States, because they make music that gets your blood boiling and they always stand up for the underdog.
Two of my best friends held a St Patrick's Day party for about fifteen consecutive years, the highlight of which was a contest to see who could drink an “Irish Car Bomb” quicker than everyone else, to the tune of a Dropkick Murphys song. A lot of people just listen to them for the incredible, adrenaline-fueled rock n roll, but I listen to them for another reason too.
The Dropkick Murphys aren't corporate rock. They don't sing slick, meaningless songs. They don't pose. They are fighters, and the things they are fighting for are some of the same things I am fighting for. Their songs have the same effect for me as the sound of bagpipes to a Celtic warrior, getting ready to go into battle for his people and his way of life. They make me want to draw my claymore, scream out my war-cry, and charge. Not literally, of course, but I think you get my drift. Not many bands can do a really good battle song, but these guys have it down, and it doesn't hurt that they're fighting on the same side I am.
