Green Day fans were no doubt in a total frenzy when they learned that frontman Billie Joe Armstrong was hospitalized during the band's tour in Italy over the weekend. What happened? Apparently, Armstrong lost his voice.
The situation prompted Green Day to cancel a planned Saturday night show in Bologna, Italy. Armstrong's band mates, drummer Tre Cool and bassist Mike Dirnt, decided to address fans directly, posting a video on the band's official website explaining the situation.
I hate that the fans in Italy didn't get so see Green Day perform in Bologna, but I'm glad that Billie Joe Armstrong sought medical help promptly. As for what brought on the voice issues, that's not known. I'm sure that will come out in the next few weeks.
There is some good news: Billie Joe Armstrong arrived back in Los Angeles, California, earlier today. And of course, TMZ was all over the story, posting a video that shows Armstrong clearly saying that his "voice is gone" when asked what happened. Hopefully doctors have put him on full voice rest, so he can recover. At least, for now, it seems he's complying.
Green Day does have a couple of high profile shows scheduled in the U.S. coming up: a gig at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 21, and then an appearance at the Voodoo Music Experience on October 27 in New Orleans. At this point, all fans can do is watch, wait and hope that Billie Joe Armstrong's health continues to improve (quickly). Get well soon!
