Outside Lands is one of the coolest music festivals in the world. Everyone we know who's been tells me we have got to go. The lineup for this year's festival included the likes of Metallica and Neil Young, so that right there was reason enough to hit up Golden Gate Park for some great music. But it was Jack White who gave the biggest surprise of the weekend. Why?
Jack White played a surprise show for fans gathered in a wooded area in Golden Gate park (between the main stages). Yes, it was rock at its finest in one of the most unlikely places!White decided, for whatever reason, to pull his Third Man Records truck right beside the food area. Out he hopped, followed by his all-female band. As the small crowd quickly grew, White busted out an amazing set that included "Love Interruption," "Broken Boy Soldier" and "Hotel Yorba." Here's the proof:
See? It totally happened, and it got even better, if that's possible. Tom Morello also decided to play a surprise set at the Outside Lands Music Festival. This happened on the same day, in the same area. My head would have exploded, I assure you. Morello's set included "Flesh Shapes the Day," seen here:
What is better than seeing two of the best rock musicians working today? Seeing them both performing spontaneous sets for smaller crowds gathered in the woods of Golden Gate Park, that's what! All of this just solidifies my belief that Outside Lands has become the next music festival I'll be attending. Is it too early to get tickets for next year?
